To ensure that the Bahamian Government, businesses, and people are never hampered in their activities by inadequacies of statistics, their recent trends, or their interpretation; and in particular, to ensure that the managers of the Bahamian economy in the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and elsewhere, never lack adequate statistics nor argue about them.

BNSI Core Functions
As the national authority on statistics in The Bahamas, BNSI performs several key functions:
- Collect, compile, and publish official Bahamas statistics across all major sectors
- Conduct national censuses and large-scale household surveys to measure social and economic conditions
- Maintain and promote a coordinated National Statistical System (NSS) in The Bahamas
- Ensure data quality and integrity through alignment with international statistical standards and best practices
- Collaborate with international and regional partners such as CARICOM, the United Nations, and other national statistical offices
- Support evidence-based policymaking and development planning through data and analytics
- Enhance public access to statistics via digital platforms, publications, and open data tools
